Shielded Metal Arc Welding NCI
The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I program equips trainees with the knowledge, skills, and work attitudes required to perform basic shielded metal arc welding operations in accordance with the latest TESDA Training Regulations and industry standards. The program develops fundamental competencies in preparing materials, setting up welding equipment, performing basic welds, and observing proper welding safety practices for entry-level employment in the welding industry.

Course Objective – Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I (TESDA)
The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I program aims to equip trainees with the knowledge, skills, and work attitudes required to perform basic shielded metal arc welding tasks in accordance with the latest TESDA competency standards and industry requirements. Upon completion of the course, trainees will be able to:
Interpret basic welding drawings, symbols, specifications, and work instructions to perform assigned welding tasks.
Prepare welding materials, tools, equipment, and workpieces using proper procedures and industry standards.
Set up and operate shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) equipment safely and efficiently.
Perform basic fillet and groove welds on carbon steel plates in accordance with established welding procedures and quality standards.
Inspect completed welds through visual examination and perform basic corrections to ensure acceptable weld quality.
Apply occupational safety and health (OSH) practices, fire prevention measures, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout welding operations.
Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, effective communication, discipline, and responsibility in a welding work environment.
Qualify for the TESDA National Assessment leading to the National Certificate I (NC I) and pursue employment as a Welder Helper, Junior SMAW Welder, Fabrication Assistant, Metal Fabrication Worker, or Entry-Level Welding Technician.
