Course Objective – Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II (TESDA)

The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II program aims to equip trainees with the knowledge, skills, and work attitudes required to perform shielded metal arc welding tasks in accordance with the latest TESDA competency standards and industry requirements. Upon completion of the course, trainees will be able to:

• Interpret welding drawings, symbols, specifications, and welding procedure requirements to perform assigned welding tasks accurately.

• Prepare base metals, welding consumables, tools, equipment, and workpieces following standard welding procedures and quality requirements.

• Set up, operate, and maintain shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) equipment using appropriate welding parameters and techniques.

• Perform fillet and groove welds on carbon steel plates and pipes in various welding positions while meeting industry quality standards.

• Inspect completed welds using visual inspection techniques and perform necessary repairs or corrections to ensure weld integrity.

• Apply occupational safety and health (OSH) practices, fire prevention measures, proper handling of welding equipment, and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout welding operations.

• Demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and adherence to quality assurance procedures in a welding work environment.

• Qualify for the TESDA National Assessment leading to the National Certificate II (NC II) and pursue employment as a Shielded Metal Arc Welder, Structural Welder, Pipe Welder (Entry-Level), Welding Technician, Fabrication Welder, or Metal Fabrication Technician.
